The Step Up Youth Initiative is honored to announce its participation in a three days Eastern Uganda Regional Capacity Building on Biodiversity and Climate Change in Mbale. This strategic engagement is an initiative of the UNDP Uganda Youth Working Group on Biodiversity and Climate Change, a platform dedicated to empowering young leaders to drive Uganda’s environmental agenda.
Eastern Uganda, particularly the Mt. Elgon region, is a biodiversity hotspot facing acute climate vulnerabilities—from landslides to changing rainfall patterns. As an organization deeply rooted in this region through our Obuntu Model Community Farm, we recognize that environmental degradation is not just an ecological crisis; it is a direct threat to the Economic Sovereignty (Okweyimirizaawo) of the rural women and youth we serve.
Our Role & Objectives: Representing Step Up, our team is engaging with fellow youth leaders, environmental experts, and UNDP partners to:
Deepen Technical Expertise: Enhancing our knowledge of nature-based solutions to integrate into our regenerative agriculture training.
Advocate for Local Solutions: Championing the role of indigenous knowledge and youth-led innovation in national biodiversity strategies.
Strengthen Partnerships: Building alliances to scale our climate-smart initiatives, ensuring that youth are not just victims of climate change, but architects of resilience.
This participation reinforces our Civic Responsibility (Bulungibwansi) pillar. We are committed to translating global climate goals into tangible, local action that protects our land and secures our future.
