Step Up Youth Initiative is proud to collaborate with the Uganda SDGs Secretariat, a key player under the Office of the Prime Minister driving national progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This partnership strengthens youth participation in achieving the SDGs and aligns with Uganda’s Vision 2040.
Aligning Efforts:
The Uganda SDGs Secretariat hosts the Uganda Youth Coalition for SDGs, where Step Up Youth Initiative serves as a founding and active member. This coalition enjoys the patronage of two vital entities:
- Office of the UN Resident Coordinator: Provides international support and expertise for youth-led development initiatives.
- Office of the Prime Minister (through the Uganda SDGs Secretariat): Offers national leadership and resources for SDG implementation, with the Uganda Youth Coalition serving as a key platform for youth engagement.
Together, we champion youth leadership in:
- Policy Advocacy: Influencing policy decisions and ensuring youth voices are heard in national SDG implementation plans.
- Capacity Building: Equipping young Ugandans with the knowledge, skills, and resources to drive positive change in their communities.
- Monitoring & Accountability: Holding stakeholders accountable for progress towards the SDGs and ensuring youth perspectives are integrated into national reviews.
A Shared Vision for Youth Action:
One significant outcome of this partnership is our participation in the annual Uganda SDGs Conference, organized by the Uganda SDGs Secretariat. This event provides a platform for youth to engage with decision-makers and showcase their contributions to achieving the SDGs.
Currently, Step Up Youth Initiative and the Uganda SDGs Secretariat are working hand-in-hand to promote youth participation in the National Voluntary Review (VNR). As Uganda prepares to present its third VNR at the High-Level Political Forum this year, we are collaborating to ensure youth voices are effectively integrated into the national review process.
Looking Ahead:
Step Up Youth Initiative remains committed to its partnership with the Uganda SDGs Secretariat. Through continued collaboration, we aim to empower young people to become active agents of change, drive progress towards a more sustainable future for Uganda, and ensure that the SDGs are achieved with the full and active participation of youth.
