Building a Brighter Future: Uganda’s Youth Take Action
28 May, 2024 SDGs, UpdatesHighlighting the UN Uganda Bulletin
Step Up Youth Initiative, a Ugandan youth-led organization dedicated to empowering young people to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is proud to highlight the incredible work showcased in the latest UN Uganda Bulletin (March-May 2024).
This bulletin features inspiring stories of Ugandans tackling critical challenges and building a more sustainable future. As a member of the Uganda Youth Coalition for SDGs, SUYI is particularly excited about the focus on several areas that align with our core mission:
Combating Malnutrition
The success story of Rubaba Village, highlighted in the article "Empowering Refugee Communities Through Proactive Nutrition Initiatives," demonstrates the power of community-driven solutions to fight malnutrition. SUYI applauds the efforts of Village Health Teams (VHTs) and UNICEF in providing crucial training and resources for this initiative
Promoting Environmental Sustainability
We are particularly impressed by Hellen Munyasa’s innovative approach to plastic waste management, as described in the article “Transforming Plastic into High Quality Sewing Threads.” Her company, Helton Traders, exemplifies the potential of youth-led entrepreneurship to address environmental concerns.
Building Self-Reliance
The “Building Self-Reliance Model” presented in the bulletin offers a promising approach to empower refugees and host communities. Step Up Yout Initiative is committed to supporting initiatives that promote income generation and long-term self-sufficiency for all Ugandans
